  1. Here's your ballet recommendation:

    Corpus Cristi Ballet presents "Dracula"

    Sunday, April 18th 2:00 p.m.
Original choreography by Cristina Stirling Munro

For over 100 years Dracula has mesmerized readers and audience members alike. This April, Corpus Christi Ballet will revive the Count and grant him freedom to roam the night once again through the power and passion of ballet. The cast will transport you to Transylvania to witness an elegant, dark drama of love, bloodlust, loss, and redemption. This enthralling and vivid adaption of Bram Stoker's Gothic masterpiece illuminates Jonathan Harker's journey to Transylvania and the entrancing powers of Count Dracula, the beautiful Mina, and the doomed Lucy. Dracula is performed to a gripping, spine-tingling score, accompanied by howls of wolves with a set and costumes that are ingeniously complemented by eerie and supernatural effects. This ballet is an original work by Corpus Christi Ballet's artistic director, Cristina Stirling Munro, which premiered to great acclaim. Appropriate for 6th grade and up.

  4. My husband and I just moved to Corpus Christi. We have lived in Dallas and Seattle, and are here because of a job opportunity. We really want to make this a permanent home for us. We don't know anyone here, and don't have any family around at all, so it has hard getting to know Corpus. I plan on doing most, if not all, of these events you have planned. Thank you so much for your articles, and for helping us in making Corpus Christi our home!

  5. You are doing great things for our community in challenging us to "look" at all the opportunies available. THANK YOU!

Some suggestions: Attend a production at the new Aurora Theatre at Holly & Everhardt. The current show, Nunsence, is hysterical & runs three more weekends.

Literary Society readings are twice a year (Spring & Fall). Not always, but most of the time they are Texas authors.

    Visit Amish Farm near Beeville

Hummingbird Round-up in Rockport in September.

Meet someone connected to Navy base & attend a pilot's pinning ceremony.

  8. The Art Museum of South Texas is free to the public the first Thursday of every month, so this should definitely be on your list of things to do! From March 25 – May 30, Corpus Christi residents have the opportunity to see an exhibit of the works of Judy Chicago, who is internationally known. Many art history students have read about her life and works in their textbooks. The exhibit is a must-see (the next free community days is May 6).

  9. Here are a few suggestions to plug in for the unassigned items on the list.

-- Attend the annual Ranch Hand Breakfast at the King Ranch.

-- Go to the air show.

    -- Visit the botanical gardens.

There's plenty of stuff to do, not just in Corpus, but in the surrounding cities and towns. You just have to know where to look.

Also, for what it's worth, I think an enterprising businessperson could probably make a killing by opening a drive-in theatre in the CC area, showing double-features of first-run, classic, and indie films, charging reasonable admission, and providing quality food at the concession stand. For inspiration, look no further than the Stars & Stripes Drive-In in Lubbock...

  10. Two things--
I am intrigued by the art piece tour you're doing around the city. Where's that list so I can do it too?
As for how to get started birding: I'm a biology teacher and I take my kids to Hans Sutter Park with bino's, a Peterson's field guide of Texas, and a sketch book. Use the bino's to note unusual features on the birds; look up the birds in the Peterson's--when you find one, check the entry in the book with the date; draw in the sketch book to train your eyes to thoroughly see what you're seeing. Pay attention to not only their plumage, but their habits as well. I believe you will be hooked in no time! My students always are.
Thanks so much for your articles. I've always loved this city, but now I do for even more reasons because of your encouragement.
